Ripped jeans. Stylish. Trendy. Can not be worn without older people asking if “you bought them like that”, or “if you knew there was a hole in your jeans”…
Ripped jeans are forever rotating in and out of fashion, but I think ripped black skinny jeans are an edgy twist on a classic piece of any wardrobe! As you know from my DIY high waisted shorts post, I love cutting, tearing, and distressing denim! It’s almost like denim was made to be a DIY because denim cuts so easily and looks so effortless when cut!
So without further ado, I present to you the steps to distressing your own denim, and becoming one pair of jeans closer to being #TrendyAF.

Try on jeans and decide where you want to put the major cuts. I am cutting hole in the knees so while I was wearing them I put a mark right on the knee cap where I wanted the hole to be
cut hole at mark that you made. For me, I just cut a straight line across the knee because that’s the look I am going for!
Put something hard through the knee hole, or where ever you’re putting your distressing, and start going at it with your scissors. Pluck at it, run the blade against the grain of the denim and really just try to make the denim look torn up and distressed. (The scissors are in my hand in the exact way I hold them to pick at the denim!)
Distress anywhere else you think it will look good! I did the upper thigh of one leg, around the knees, and one of the back pockets! to distress, I just go against the grain of the jeans and tear at it with the tip of my scissors until I’m satisfied with how it looks!
