Today’s review is for two drugstore makeup products, both by Maybelline. Maybelline is probably my favorite drug store makeup brand! Not for any reason other than that everytime I go to Target to buy makeup, I always leave with Maybelline products (and Physician’s Formula, can’t forget them!). For this Target trip, I specifically needed setting powder and concealer.
When looking for concealer, I was looking for something with decent coverage, but also something that wasn’t liquid and creamy because I stopped wearing heavy creams last summer (my skin is 1,000,000 times better now, btw). I went with the Dream Brightening Creamy Concealer stick in the shade “fair”.

- This concealer IS very brightening which is one of the main things I was looking for, however the formula of the concealer is VERY dry. Your face must be extremely moisturized and prepped to get the full benefits out of this concealer. It is not one of those concealers that you can just last minute slap on, and I definitely wouldn’t bring it out with me for touch ups, because it is hard to blend. To me, “stick” products are for on-the-go touch ups, details, and just easy application in general, so I think it’s weird that this product requires SO much prepping to be used and actually look good. HOWEVER with propper skin prepping it works wonderfully.
For the translucent powder, I was looking for a decently priced setting powder. I was looking for something to set my new concealer (once I got home and tried these products out, I realized the concealer is very dry so it doesn’t need to be set haha). I went with the Master fix setting + perfecting powder that sets, mattifies, blurs, and smoothes.

- Although this setting powder doesn’t work well with my new concealer, it DEFINITELY does its job of setting makeup and “soaking up” the moisture! It is undetectable like it’s marketted to be, and I honesltly don’t see how it’s a lesser quality than higher-end makeup. For $9.99, you reeally cant beat the price or the quality. I would defintely recommend this to anyone in need of a setting powder!
TAKE AWAY: Def go buy the setting powder, but maybe try out a different concealer, especially if you have dry skin!
